Web based FTP

Anyone have any web based FTP program to recommend?

cpanel filemanager currently allows only single file upload which is not enough.

I need a web based FTP program which can upload entire directory (recursively for subdirectories. All that I found currently are all applets. Wonder if any other application can do the same thing?

i think he meant web based, as in those hosted on web servers. not the programs itself.

LampPC: u can try phpwebftp.

I don't trust webbased FTP as we know that the username and password are in clear text over the air.

You could always run it on an ssl site... (anyway, regular ftp also has cleartext authentication)

net2ftp.com is a good one but I dont think it supports directories. It will make one crazy to upload a huge directory by uploading one file by one file.

How about advising the user to tar/zip up the directory, upload the archive, and extract it on the server?

Actually I was think of making a web based FTP to include in the cpanel for non IT-savvy customers so you cant expect them to zip the directory. It seems that in order to upload an entire directory, the only option is to use an applet.

FTP Applet

Hi All,

I use http://www.jscape.com/ftpapplet/

I have used this for many of my web projects and clients like it. I only use the evaluation version (free but with ads). New version is very slow, and take a lot of CPU. So, i am still using old version.

Those thing run on Java. Make sure you have JRE installed

I still prefer Zip then Unzip... lesser time to upload....

Zip is very common now, even non-savvy know this.. Unless the user just touch computer....
